How Daily Brain Washing Helps Mental Hygiene

We are bombarded every day with messages that take a lot of our attention: YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, virtual meetings, emails, and the list goes on. What we need is daily brainwashing.

Attention causes many benefits and many deficits. Benefits include the ability to strive, cooperate, and think strategically. Deficits are anxiety, stress, and weariness especially if we place too much attention on activities.

I truly believe that too much stress may cause mental disorders by turning on genetic coding within our DNA; Ask any veteran who has experienced PTSD, any victim of rape or domestic abuse, or any impressionable youth with a broken heart.

One daily brainwashing activity I use for my mental clarity is listening to soft music. I don’t mean hard rock or heavy metal, like Metallica or Marilyn Manson. I mean SOFT, reflective music. The kind that relaxes you. I ask Alexa to play meditation music whenever I need to hear it.

Another approach to washing your brain from all the stimulants you consumed over the course of the day is to keep a journal. By journaling once a day, preferably at the end of the day, one gets to find out what really matters, what one is grateful for, and what one is living for.

Also, if you decide to wake up after dreaming, keep a notebook beside your bedside and write what you dreamed about. Many a song was dreamed up by musicians, and many a poem was thought up by dreaming.

Whatever you decide to do, make your practice a daily one.
